Results of ICA awareness campaign to inner city businesses

In April 2012, ICA (Geraldine Murphy, Chair and Olivier Lacoua, GM, CQ Hotels) met with Garry Poole (WCC CEO), Wendy Walker (WCC Citizen Engagement Director) and Ian McKinnon (Deputy Mayor) to discuss the issues raised by businesses in late 2011.

The purpose of this campaign was to provide businesses with an opportunity to be added to ICA’s database for future updates and to gather information on issues facing businesses.  This work was funded through a WCC Economic Grant.

As a result of the meeting with WCC, ICA made a submission to the Long Term Plan that funding be allocated to establishing support structures for small/medium businesses to foster new and support existing small/medium business in Wellington.

The attached documents are the final report to WCC and a detailed summary of the issues raised by businesses.

Update on next EQ meetings

We cannot confirm any dates for the next EQ meetings at this point as the Royal Commission Report is not yet publicly available.  We are following up potential speakers for the insurance/finance topic that was suggested but our preference is to hold the Royal Commission report meeting first if possible.  We and WCC will endeavour to get an indication of when the report is likely to be available.

In response to a request for the report the Royal Commission advised: ”The report delivered to the Governor General today (29th June) is the first part of the final report and contains recommendations to inform early decision-making about the central city’s recovery from the Canterbury earthquakes. The Governor-General will provide the report to the Government. It is the Government’s decision as to how and when the report is released.  When this first part of the final report is publicly released by the Government, it will be available on the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission website www.canterbury.royalcommission.govt.nz . Printed copies will also be available from the Department of Building and Housing.’

The regular ICA meeting 10 July is cancelled as we have not arranged an alternative speaker.  We will provide updates via email and website on future meetings.
