Mourning the Passing of Kīngi Tuheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII
It is with deep sorrow that the Islamic Circle of Aotearoa acknowledges the passing of Kīngi Tuheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII, the seventh Māori monarch and a revered leader whose vision, compassion, and dedication have profoundly impacted Aotearoa New Zealand.
Kīngi Tuheitia was more than a monarch to the Māori people; he was a beacon of unity, kotahitanga, and peace for all communities across New Zealand, including the Muslim community. His leadership was marked by an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of all people, transcending ethnic and religious boundaries. During times of adversity, including the tragic events of the Christchurch mosque attacks, Kīngi Tuheitia stood in solidarity with the Muslim community, offering his support and affirming the values of compassion and inclusivity that define our nation.
We, the Muslim community of Aotearoa, will always remember Kīngi Tuheitia as a leader who upheld the principles of justice and unity, advocating for harmony among all people, regardless of their faith or background. His legacy is one of kindness, strength, and a relentless pursuit of a society where everyone is respected and valued.
As we mourn his passing, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the Kiingitanga, and the Māori people. The Islamic Circle of Aotearoa stands with you during this time of grief, offering our prayers and support.
